Lower Hewood is a working smallholding in West Dorset exploring ecological farming, community-supported growing, and land-based creativity. Run by a farmer, a grower, and an artist, we grow food, host events, and offer a grounded place to gather, learn, and connect.

Growing

Led by seasoned grower and permaculturalist Claire Hannington-Williams, we embrace natural growing systems - with composts, mulches and fermented plant extracts feeding our soil and nurturing our plants on our single acre market garden plot.

Our produce is sold locally via our seasonal CSA veg box subscription and our surplus is used for our on-farm dinners.

Farming

Driven by lifelong organic farmer Tim Williams, our approach to farming has a strong focus on biological, and soil centric systems, working in harmony with the cycles of nature, and following an ecological mindset.

Although we’re organic by default, we consider our approach to be beyond organic drawing knowledge from the realms of permaculture, biodynamic and regenerative farming wisdom.

Events

Throughout the summer we’ll be running a series of pop-up dinners, picnics, workshops, farm open days, film events and exhibitions - events will be listed below as and when they go live >

OPEN FARM SUNDAY - 08 June 2025

SUMMER DINNER - 19th July 2025

Learning

Our passion lies in sharing our knowledge, skills and experience with a new generation of farmers & growers.

Together we have over 20 years of practical hands-on farming & growing experience and through our sister organisation Earth Farmers, we support, educate and mentor others around biological and ecologically sound farming and growing systems.
